PC World: "One of the 70 Best Free software programs of the Planet"

The largest part of the functionality of Winuscon is divided between Browser PA and FolderViewer now. These programs run on all Windows versions and are the replacement for Winuscon 2.0.

Winuscon 1.56 released on 25 februari 2004: 

Fixed: On some machines Windows 95. 98 and ME Winuscon will run now.
But it is still recommended only to run Winuscon on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
 

Fixed: Coördinates interval World Time clocks.

New Features:
1. Online Currencies conversions (168 countries) with calculator.
2. Online search for maps based on Street, Zip Code, City and Country data.
3. New Tool buttonbar on the Menupanels.
4. DOS-, NET- and Commandline utilities can now be added and/or modified. We really listen!
5. Advanced Editor with Browser added.
6. World Time Am/PM added
7. Detailed System, Event and Network Information
8. Search for Lyrics on the Internet.

Bugs fixed

1. File-editor showed no files in Open/Save dialog (as a workaround you had to type in *.* first). Now fixed and shows all files by default.

Update 24 october 2003: 

1. 15 new utilities added on the PC Info page. 

2. 63 new utilities available on the Windows Console panel for Windows XP users.

3. Google Definitions added in the Google commands list. 

To update the googlecommands.txt for the Google Definitions look above for an explanation. To test Define: Select Google Define and select GSM from the combobox and click on the Google button.

Important: If you did not install the Support Tools in 'c:\program files\support tools' set the correct folder on the Settings panel first so Winuscon is able to find them.

Menu

Menu program: Using ten different Menu panels. Including 28 predefined Windows folders to choose from. Set the Menu to i.e. Recent with a filter for Office files for quick access to your most recent Office documents. Very easy shortcut wizard with 5 icon files to choose from; Support for Novell Zen Folders as well.

 Internet

Multi Panel Internet Browser: Hightech MSIE based Browser with easy access to Google (Google, Froogle, News, Newsgroups, Images, Catalog and Translate). Direct access to History, Cache and Cookies. Option to Delete them after previewing them. Favorites are shown in a Tree, like the Windows Explorer; Disable (commercial) Popups without using a database; Drag links between all four panels for Browsing. Very useful for comparing site content because of the horizontal and vertical tiling option.

LDAP Directory Viewing and Searching: Add LDAP-results to your Outlook addressbook with one mouseclick using the VCard creator. 

SMS: Use (free) sites on the Internet to send your SMS´s using Outlook's addressbook. You can save as many sites as you want in your Database.

Databased Telnet Client: Telnet servers are saved in Database for quick connections. Results can be saved to file.

Internet Utilities

Finger; Host Lookup; DNS Query; Ping; Trace; Who Is. With an option to Print the results. DNS Hosts and WhoIs servers are saved in a Database for very easy access. 

 Office (standalone MS Outlook; no Exchange support)

Mailmerge: Use HTML or Word Documents for merging and send the result as E-mail, to the Printer or as Fax. Direct access to Outlook Folders for addresslists; HTML email templates can be quickly selected, filled in and send with Outlook.

QuickLetter: MS Word document generator, using Headers, Footers, Outlook Addresses, References, Salutation and Signature from file or by default setting. No need for complicated dot templates anymore. Now anyone can start creating letters in seconds. Get your secretary home on time, do it yourself.

Centralized PC Info: Control Panel, Profile, System Tools, Printers,  Network, CPU/Memory usage, Environment; 

Multi Functional File Manager: including a very powerful editor with 30 templates for editing i.e. C, Pascal, Batch, Clipper, Visual Basic, XML, HTML etc. sourcecode. Find files blazingly fast, even under XP. You can use the Attributes panel to display the EXIF data of your digital photos.

Folder Viewer: Very detailed information about files in folders; Including Office document properties to group on; i.e. total editing time per user and Extended Properties like Company name, Version, Copyright etc; Files can be opened using the default Windows association or forced to be opened by MS Word or WordPerfect.
